Arsenal fans are starting to think they might be out of the Premier League title race after their loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.
A first-half header from Alexander Isak was enough to give Newcastle a 1-0 win at St. James’ Park, marking their second consecutive victory over Arsenal at home.
Mikel Arteta’s team had 64 percent of the ball but managed only four shots on target, as Newcastle put up a strong and effective defense in the second half. Arsenal’s best chance came late in the match when Declan Rice missed a close-range header from Bukayo Saka’s cross.
This marks the first time since February 2023 that Arsenal has gone three league games without a win. If Liverpool and Manchester City win their upcoming matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth, Arsenal could find themselves eight points behind the top of the table and seven points off second place.
For some fans, the dream of winning their first league title in 20 years may already be slipping away.
Just before the end of the game, media personality Piers Morgan shared on social media that it was a “disaster” for Arsenal’s hopes of winning the title to be fading so early in the season.
Connor Humm from the Arsenal fan channel AFTV posted on X: “Absolutely embarrassing performance. Not one good showing from anyone in a red shirt. Title over in November.”
One fan criticized the “largely underwhelming” performances, saying, “Lacking creativity & threat after almost £700m of spending & 5 years is inexcusable.” Another fan mentioned, “No more title race talk, just focus on finishing T3, win a cup and then go again next season.”
Former defender Martin Keown, who was part of the last title-winning ‘Invincibles’ team in 2004, said on TNT Sports: “Obviously, it’s still early in the season, but it’s a long way back now. It’s thoroughly disappointing. Arsenal just didn’t impose their authority on this game at all.
“They didn’t get going at any point.”
