The Los Angeles Angels signed catcher Travis d’Arnaud to a two-year, $12 million contract on Tuesday.
d’Arnaud, who was the Braves’ starting catcher, became a free agent this offseason after Atlanta decided not to pick up his $8 million option for the 2025 season.
The 35-year-old player had a .238 batting average with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs in 99 games during the 2024 season. He was part of the Braves’ 2021 World Series-winning team and was also selected as a first-time All-Star in 2022.
During his five years with the Braves, d’Arnaud hit .251 with 60 home runs and 207 RBIs in 384 games. He has also played for the New York Mets (2013-19), Los Angeles Dodgers (2019), and Tampa Bay Rays (2019).
In his 884 career games, he has a .248 batting average, 123 home runs, 438 RBIs, and 374 runs.
d’Arnaud won a Silver Slugger award in 2020 after hitting a career-high .321.
In a related move, the Angels designated right-handed pitcher Guillo Zuniga for assignment. Zuniga, 26, pitched in 15 games for the Angels in 2024, his first season with the team, and finished with a 5.09 ERA in 17 2/3 innings.
