De’Aaron Fox scored 49 points, just one night after setting a franchise record with 60 in an overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Sacramento Kings defeated the Utah Jazz 121-117 on Saturday.
Kevin Huerter added 18 points and Trey Lyles scored 17 for the Kings, who won the game thanks to Fox’s two free throws with 1.8 seconds left. His 109 points over two games set a team record for the most points in that span.
Fox made 16 of 30 shots from the field, 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, and 14 of 19 free throws. He also recorded nine assists in a game that had six ties and 14 lead changes.
Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 25 points. Keyonte George scored 19, Collin Sexton added 18, Jordan Clarkson finished with 17, and John Collins had 16.
Utah had a lead of as much as 11 points in the third quarter, but the Kings fought back and tied the game at 107 with Huerter’s 3-pointer at 5:25 left in the game.
Down 116-113 with 1:54 remaining, Sacramento scored five straight points, with Fox hitting a jump shot and Jordan McLaughlin making a 3-pointer.
With 38.8 seconds left, Fox hit 1 of 2 free throws to give the Kings a 119-116 lead. Clarkson made the first of two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining, but the Jazz couldn’t secure the rebound after he missed the second free throw on purpose.
Fox was hot early, making three 3-pointers and scoring 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting in the first quarter, giving the Kings a 35-31 lead.
Sacramento extended their lead to 62-50 with 3:35 left in the second quarter, but Utah ended the half on a 13-2 run to close the gap to 64-63 at halftime.
The Jazz continued their run in the third quarter and led 89-78 with 3:31 left, but the Kings fought back and cut the lead to 94-90 by the end of the period.
Sacramento played without Domantas Sabonis (lower back tightness), DeMar DeRozan (lower back tightness), and Malik Monk (right ankle sprain).
