Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor each recorded three points to lead the Winnipeg Jets to an 8-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
Scheifele, who scored two goals and added an assist, found the net in both the first and second periods, marking his 46th career multi-goal game, tying Ilya Kovalchuk for the most in team history. The Jets built a 3-0 lead before exploding for five goals in the third period, including three goals in just 7:19 and two more in a span of 10 seconds.
Connor had two assists and also scored during the third-period surge, while Gabriel Vilardi and Nikita Chibrikov each contributed a goal and an assist.
Alex Iafallo, Vladislav Namestnikov, and Mason Appleton also scored for the Jets. Neal Pionk recorded two assists, and Winnipeg went 3-for-6 on the power play to secure their third win in four games.
Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves to earn his league-leading 18th win, including eight saves in the first period.
David Pastrnak scored for the Bruins, and Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves in the loss. Boston had won four straight games before starting their current five-game road trip.
The Jets took the lead at 12:09 of the first period on a four-minute power play. Pionk’s shot went wide, but the puck bounced off the wall, hit Nino Niederreiter, and went across the crease where Namestnikov was able to tap it in.
They doubled their lead late in the first period after a turnover allowed Scheifele to race to the slot and score off a pass from Connor with 1:59 left.
After Hellebuyck stopped a wrist shot from Nikita Zadorov, the Jets quickly made it 3-0. Josh Morrissey passed to Scheifele for a one-timer during a brief power play at 7:02.
Pastrnak responded with a power-play goal at 9:13 of the second, bringing the Bruins within 3-1. Charlie McAvoy assisted with a pass into the left circle, where Pastrnak beat Hellebuyck.
In the third, Connor scored just 1:15 in, capitalizing on a failed clearing attempt and netting a goal from Scheifele’s pass. Connor then assisted Vilardi, who scored on a wrist shot at 5:33 to make it 5-1.
Iafallo added another power-play goal at 7:19, tipping in a shot from Pionk.
The final two goals came late in the game, with Appleton scoring at 16:16 from an impossible angle and Chibrikov marking his NHL debut with a turnaround shot from the left faceoff circle.
