In Philadelphia, the Maple Leafs and Jets are the top contenders for Scott Laughton

The Philadelphia Flyers are in trade talks involving veteran center Scott Laughton, with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets showing the most interest.

Anthony Di Marco from Daily Faceoff reported on Saturday that trade discussions have picked up, though other teams have also shown interest in acquiring Laughton if he’s available before the trade deadline.

“Sounds like trade talks are heating up around Flyers center Scott Laughton,” Di Marco posted on X. “Sources indicate Leafs and Jets are two of the teams who have shown the most interest, but a handful of teams are in the mix.”

Laughton, 30, is in the third year of a five-year, $15 million contract with a $3 million cap hit. He’s a versatile two-way forward and has scored 11 goals and 15 assists in 54 games this season. While Laughton isn’t a top scorer, with no season above 18 goals in his 12-year career, he’s reliable in both offensive and defensive roles, including penalty kill duties.

The Flyers have used Laughton in a middle-six role and currently have him as a second-line forward.

As the Flyers continue to drop in the Eastern Conference standings, they’ve already traded several players, including Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost. It’s likely the team will adopt a “seller” position at the deadline. According to Dean Chaudhry of Flyers Nation, Philadelphia general manager Daniel Briere might be seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Laughton.

“Laughton had been a staple in trade talks for well over half a decade even after he signed his team-friendly long-term extension,” Chaudhry wrote. “He still has one year remaining at a cap hit of just $3 million, but Briere’s asking price remains high with a first-round pick.”

While the Jets could meet that price, the Leafs don’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft. However, Toronto does own its 2026 first-round pick and could include that along with top prospects in trade talks.
