Grady Jarrett is leaving the Atlanta Falcons after a decade-long career with the team. The Falcons have decided to release the veteran defensive tackle, as reported by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. This marks a significant change for both Jarrett and the franchise, as he has been a key part of Atlanta’s defense for years.
Drafted in the fifth round in 2015, Jarrett quickly became a dominant force on the defensive line. A two-time Pro Bowler, he recorded 36.5 sacks over ten seasons and was often the only consistent threat on Atlanta’s defensive front. Despite his efforts, the Falcons struggled to build a strong supporting cast around him, limiting the overall effectiveness of their defense.

Injury Struggles and Financial Decisions Lead to Jarrett’s Release from Falcons
Injuries have taken a toll on Jarrett’s performance in recent seasons. He suffered a torn ACL in 2023, which significantly impacted his explosiveness and effectiveness on the field. Given his declining performance and hefty contract, Atlanta had to make a tough financial decision regarding his future.
Set to earn $15.25 million in base salary for 2025 but with no guaranteed money, Jarrett was a prime candidate for a restructure or release. The Falcons ultimately opted to cut ties, saving $16.25 million in cap space. Now, Jarrett enters a thin free-agent market and may seek a short-term deal, potentially reuniting with former coach Dan Quinn in Washington after the Commanders moved on from Jonathan Allen.
