NHL recap: Kings dominate 7-2, snap Hurricanes’ winning streak

Los Angeles Kings (NHL)

Andrei Kuzmenko, Anze Kopitar, Tanner Jeannot, Quinton Byfield, and Kevin Fiala each scored a goal and provided an assist to help the Los Angeles Kings break the Carolina Hurricanes’ eight-game win streak with a 7-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

Adrian Kempe and Trevor Moore also scored, Drew Doughty had two assists, and David Rittich made 34 saves for the Kings, who have won seven out of their last eight games.

For the second time in the team’s history, all 12 forwards had at least one point in the game. This had previously occurred on April 6, 1974, against the Vancouver Canucks.

Dmitry Orlov and Mark Jankowski scored for Carolina, and Pyotr Kochetkov stopped just five of the first 11 shots before finishing with 18 saves. The Hurricanes gave up three goals in each of the first two periods.

Avalanche 5, Canadiens 4 (SO)

After giving up a three-goal lead in the third period, the Avalanche managed to win against the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout, with Brock Nelson scoring a wrist shot in the fourth round.

Montreal, trailing 4-1 after Nelson’s goal early in the third period, came back with goals from Joshua Roy, Juraj Slafkovsky (two goals), and Christian Dvorak to tie the game.

In the shootout, Charlie Coyle gave Colorado the lead with a backhand goal in the first round. Patrik Laine tied it for Montreal two rounds later, but Nelson scored the game-winner with his wrist shot. Sam Malinski, Ryan Lindgren, and Martin Necas also scored for Colorado.

Stars 3, Flyers 2 (OT)

Thomas Harley scored twice, including the game-winning goal just nine seconds into overtime to give Dallas a home victory over Philadelphia.

Esa Lindell also scored for the Stars, who have played beyond regulation in four straight games. Dallas chased Philadelphia’s starting goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov after scoring twice on three shots in the first period.

Travis Konecny and Ryan Poehling scored for the Flyers, who have now lost four straight games.

Flames 4, Islanders 3 (OT)

Nazem Kadri scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 left in overtime to complete Calgary’s comeback win over New York in Elmont, N.Y.

The Flames were down 3-2 after Kyle MacLean’s goal for the Islanders with 2:51 left in regulation, but Jonathan Huberdeau, who also had two assists, scored just 29 seconds later to tie the game.

Matt Coronato scored twice for Calgary, while Bo Horvat, Marc Gatcomb, and Kyle MacLean each scored for New York.

Rangers 5, Canucks 3

Jonny Brodzinski scored two goals, including the game-winner late in the third period, helping New York end a five-game home losing streak with a win over Vancouver.

The game saw six goals in the final period after a 1-1 tie through the first two periods. J.T. Miller ended a nine-game goal drought by scoring and assisting on another goal for the Rangers, while K’Andre Miller and Adam Fox also found the net.

Dakota Joshua and Drew O’Connor scored for the Canucks, and Nils Aman had two assists. Vancouver played the third period without Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander due to injuries.

Golden Knights 6, Red Wings 3

Tomas Hertl scored his second hat trick in just seven games, leading Vegas to a victory over Detroit in Las Vegas.

Jack Eichel scored a goal and had three assists for the Golden Knights, while Mark Stone added a goal and two assists. Ivan Barbashev contributed with two assists, and Nicolas Roy also scored.

Patrick Kane led the Red Wings with a goal and two assists, while Dylan Larkin handed out two assists. Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat both scored. The Red Wings have lost nine of their last 11 games.

Oilers 5, Kraken 4

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his fourth career hat trick to lead Edmonton to a victory over Seattle at home.

Adam Henrique and Jeff Skinner each scored a goal for the Oilers, who played without their top two scorers, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, due to injuries. Mattias Ekholm and Darnell Nurse both had two assists for Edmonton, which is second in the Pacific Division and on a 4-0-1 streak. Goalie Stuart Skinner made 27 saves.

Kaapo Kaako scored twice for the Kraken, while Andre Burakovsky and Jaden Schwartz each added one goal. Seattle has lost two straight games and is 14 points behind a playoff spot. Goalie Joey Daccord stopped 24 shots, and Jari Nyman, a 2022 second-round draft pick, earned two assists for his first multi-point game. Jared McCann also had two assists.

Edmonton Oilers (NHL)

Capitals 6, Panthers 3

Tom Wilson, Dylan Strome, and Andrew Mangiapane all scored in a second-period burst, helping Washington break a 3-3 tie and secure a home win over Florida.

Wilson also had an assist for the Capitals, who have now won four straight. Connor McMichael scored and assisted on another goal. Anthony Beauvillier and John Carlson also scored for Washington, while Alex Ovechkin, still at 888 career goals and seven away from Wayne Gretzky’s record, had two assists.

Sam Bennett scored a goal and had an assist for the Panthers, while Seth Jones and Jonah Gadjovic each scored.

Blues 4, Blackhawks 1

Alexey Torophchenko and Nathan Walker each scored a goal and got an assist to help St. Louis win against Chicago, giving the Blues their fifth straight victory.

Robert Thomas and Zack Bolduc scored, and Joel Hofer made 26 saves for St. Louis, who have now won 11 of their last 14 games.

Ilya Mekheyeve scored the only goal for Chicago, which extended its winless streak to seven games. Arvid Soderblom made 21 saves for the Blackhawks.

Wild 4, Sabres 1

Mats Zuccarello had a goal and an assist to lead Minnesota to a win against Buffalo at home.

Marco Rossi, Justin Brazeau, and Frederick Gaudreau scored for the Wild, who have now won three games in a row. Matt Boldy had two assists, and Filip Gustavsson made 20 saves.

JJ Peterka scored for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 17 saves. The Sabres have lost two straight after winning three of their last four games.

Utah 6, Lightning 4

Logan Cooley scored two goals and added an assist, Alex Kerfoot scored two goals, and Utah Hockey Club defeated Tampa Bay in Salt Lake City.

Nick Schmaltz finished with a goal and two assists for Utah, who won for the seventh time in their last nine home games. John Marino had two assists, and Josh Doan scored a goal.

Brayden Point scored twice for the Lightning, Jake Guentzel had a goal and two assists, and Anthony Cirelli scored a goal as Tampa Bay had its three-game winning streak ended.

Ottawa Senators (NHL)

Senators 3, Devils 2

David Perron scored the game-winning goal on a power play to help Ottawa win against New Jersey.

Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson also scored for Ottawa, who avoided a third straight loss and is in first place in the Eastern Conference wild-card standings. Linus Ullmark made 25 saves, bouncing back after being pulled from a loss to Colorado on Thursday night.

Nico Hischier and Erik Haula scored for the Devils, who have lost their last two games and three of their last four. Luke Hughes had two assists, and Jake Allen made 16 saves.

Predators 5, Maple Leafs 2

Nashville ended a four-game losing streak, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win against Toronto at home.

Filip Forsberg scored two goals and got an assist, Luke Evangelista had a goal and two assists, and Fedor Svechkov had two assists for Nashville. Juuse Saros made 24 saves.

Mitch Marner scored a goal and had an assist, John Tavares scored the opening goal, and Auston Matthews had two assists for the Maple Leafs. Joseph Woll made 27 saves on 31 shots.

Sharks 3, Bruins 1

Lucas Carlsson scored the game-winning goal with 3:23 left in the game and added an assist as San Jose won against Boston at home.

In his first game with San Jose, Carlsson broke a 1-1 tie by scoring a backhand goal past Boston goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. The Sharks had lost 14 straight games to Boston in their previous matchups. William Eklund matched Carlsson with a goal and an assist, and Barclay Goodrow also scored. Macklin Celebrini assisted on the Sharks’ first two goals.

Casey Mittlestadt scored for Boston, who have gone 0-4-1 in their last five games. Korpisalo stopped 18 shots.
