In a move that defies the norms of esports age expectations, 46-year-old Bruce ‘GamerBee’ Hsiang has been signed by Taiwanese esports powerhouse Flash Wolves. Known for fielding teams in Arena of Valor, Hearthstone, and League of Legends: Wild Rift, Flash Wolves is now diving into the fighting game community (FGC) with GamerBee leading the charge. His addition reflects a strategic move to strengthen the organization’s presence in the FGC as the genre continues to gain momentum in 2025.
GamerBee Overcomes Adversity to Become Taiwan’s First Professional Fighting Game Player
GamerBee’s journey began in the late ’80s and early ’90s when video games were frowned upon by the Taiwanese government. Despite societal pushback, he developed a deep love for games like Street Fighter and Tekken.
His big break came in 2010 when he placed 5th at Evo, the largest international fighting game tournament, marking Taiwan’s arrival on the global FGC map. His success was met with national fanfare and media recognition, eventually leading to a historic signing with AVerMedia — making him Taiwan’s first professional fighting game player.

As arcades began to vanish in Taiwan, GamerBee transitioned to online play, capitalizing on Street Fighter 4’s robust netcode. This online ecosystem enabled him to train with top players globally and maintain a competitive edge.
GamerBee credits this technological shift with keeping his career alive, stating that online play was crucial in evolving into the competitor he is today. His consistent presence at major tournaments, including a 2nd place Evo finish in 2012 and a Grand Finals appearance in 2015, solidified his status as a global FGC icon.
Champion and Streamer GamerBee Shapes Taiwan’s Esports and Inspires Future Generations
In addition to competing, GamerBee played a key role in Taiwan’s streaming and esports development. By 2015, he had become Twitch Taiwan’s Partnerships Development Lead, using his platform to spotlight local streamers and elevate Street Fighter’s visibility.
He understood the importance of community-building in a niche scene and worked tirelessly to help the game gain traction in a market dominated by titles like League of Legends and Dota 2.
Even after decades in the game, GamerBee remains a formidable competitor. He placed in the Top 100 at Evo 2024 and regularly ranks in the Top 20 in online Asian tournaments.
His recent signing with Flash Wolves not only reflects his enduring skill and dedication but also signals a renewed effort to grow the FGC scene in Taiwan. GamerBee’s legacy continues to inspire new generations of players, proving that passion and perseverance can outlast even the harshest industry expectations.
