A few days after brothers John and Matthew Gaudreau tragically died in a bicycle accident, their family and friends found comfort in small signs of hope. After a storm, a double rainbow appeared outside the home of their parents, Guy and Jane Gaudreau. Jane later prayed for a sign to clear the bad weather for an event honoring her sons, and a rainbow appeared the morning of the Gaudreau Family 5K Walk/Run and Family Day, bringing her relief and hope.

Thousands Unite to Honor Gaudreau Brothers and Support Playground for Children with Disabilities

Thousands of people gathered at Washington Lake Park in southern New Jersey for the inaugural Gaudreau Family 5K Walk/Run and Family Day, a location significant to John and Matthew’s childhood. Over 1,100 participants ran or walked in person, while another 1,300 joined virtually worldwide.

NHL players close to the family, including Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, attended to show support and honor the brothers’ legacy.

The event also served to raise funds for an accessible playground at Archbishop Damiano School, where Jane and her daughter work. This project, initially supported by John and Matthew in memory of their grandmother, became a focus for Jane after her sons’ deaths. Family friends emphasized that the playground would bring joy to children with disabilities, combining honoring the brothers with making a positive community impact.

Inspiring Lives and Growing Legacy Honoring the Gaudreau Brothers Through Global Support

Community leaders and friends highlighted how John and Matthew’s lives continue to inspire others. Social media buzzed with support from fans and friends across NHL cities and beyond. Donations and virtual participation grew steadily, showing the widespread influence the brothers had, not only in their local community but internationally.

The event was emotionally significant for the Gaudreau family, with heartfelt speeches and the presence of many hockey players who shared memories and honored the brothers. Organizers plan to hold the 5K annually, potentially expanding to cities connected to John’s NHL career. Jane expressed hope that the event would grow each year as a meaningful tribute to her sons’ memory.
