The Pittsburgh Penguins have bolstered their goaltending depth by acquiring Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks. In return, the Penguins sent forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round draft pick to Vancouver. The trade was officially announced by the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Kyle Dubas. Silovs, 24, is under contract through the 2025-26 season with a cap hit of $850,000 per year.
Silovs Dominated AHL Playoffs, Leading Abbotsford to Calder Cup and Earning MVP Honors
Silovs is coming off a breakout year with the Abbotsford Canucks in the American Hockey League (AHL). He played a key role in Abbotsford’s run to their first Calder Cup Championship, earning the Playoff MVP honors. During the regular season, he posted a 14-5-2 record with a .908 save percentage and a personal best 2.41 goals-against average. In the playoffs, he elevated his performance with a 16-7 record, a 2.01 goals-against average, and a .931 save percentage, recording five shutouts — just one shy of the all-time AHL playoff record.

Over parts of five seasons in the AHL with both Abbotsford and Manitoba, Silovs has compiled a steady record. In 110 games, he holds a 59-35-13 record, a 2.58 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage, and nine shutouts. His playoff performances have been even more impressive, with a 17-8 record, 2.08 goals-against average, and .929 save percentage across 26 Calder Cup Playoff appearances.
Limited NHL Time, But International Success Shows Silovs’ High Ceiling and Future Promise
Silovs has seen limited NHL action with the Vancouver Canucks, appearing in 19 games across three seasons. During that time, he posted a 3.13 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage. He played in 10 NHL games last season. Despite the limited exposure at the top level, his AHL success and physical profile — standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 203 pounds — suggest a high upside as he develops.
A native of Riga, Latvia, Silovs has also enjoyed significant success on the international stage. He was instrumental in helping Latvia win a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championship, where he recorded a 7-3-0 record with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. His outstanding performance earned him the tournament’s MVP, Best Goaltender, and a place on the First All-Star Team. Silovs was originally selected by Vancouver in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft (156th overall).
