Anton Frondell, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, officially signed a three-year, $2.925 million entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The deal averages $975,000 annually, marking a significant milestone for the highly touted Swedish center.
At just 18 years old, Frondell is considered one of the top international prospects and will have the opportunity to showcase his skills either in the NHL or back in Sweden with Djurgarden, depending on his performance at training camp.
Frondell Shines with Djurgarden, Balancing NHL Dreams and Hometown Loyalty
Frondell made his mark with Djurgarden, helping the team secure promotion to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) after three seasons in the second-tier Allsvenskan. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 198 pounds, Frondell demonstrated his ability to impact games with both scoring and playmaking.
Last season, he recorded 25 points in 29 regular-season games and contributed seven more in the playoffs. His dominant performance earned him the top spot in NHL Central Scouting’s final ranking of International skaters.

Despite his professional aspirations in North America, Frondell has a deep emotional connection to Djurgarden, his hometown team just south of Stockholm. Having been part of the organization since age 15, he praised the club’s fanbase and atmosphere, calling it the best team to play for in Sweden.
Frondell also expressed his eagerness to make the NHL roster, emphasizing his dream of playing in the league and his willingness to return to Djurgarden if needed for further development.
Elite Two-Way Skillset Makes Frondell a Future NHL Star in Chicago
Frondell’s game has impressed NHL scouts and executives alike. Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson highlighted his well-rounded skill set, noting that Frondell plays with intelligence, physicality, and adaptability—qualities that align well with the NHL style, especially in high-stakes playoff environments.
Davidson emphasized Frondell’s ability to play in multiple styles, whether skilled, physical, or a combination of both, which increases his value as a future NHL contributor.
Scouting reports have described Frondell as a powerhouse on the ice. Jukka-Pekka Vuorinen, director of European scouting for NHL Central Scouting, likened him to a “military tank” due to his strength, balance, and tenacity in 1-on-1 battles.
He also praised Frondell’s offensive abilities, including his intelligent passing, effective power-play presence, and quick, accurate shot. With a combination of physicality, skill, and mental sharpness, Frondell is poised to be a significant asset for the Blackhawks in the years ahead.
