While most golf fans focus on the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the PGA Tour is hosting an opposite-field event this week: the Puerto Rico Open. The tournament features a 120-player field filled with rising talent, including John Daly II, who is making his PGA Tour debut.
Daly opened with a 2-under 70 at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, placing him in a tie for 13th early in the first round. Chandler Blanchet leads the tournament at 8 under. Daly expressed satisfaction with his performance, highlighting a strong start with a birdie on the first hole, a solid up-and-down on the second, and a key 20-foot par putt. He noted that while he left some strokes on the course, he managed to recover with a few clutch saves, including a chip-in on the 16th hole.

John Daly II Embraces Relaxed Approach While Making Impressive PGA Tour Debut
Despite playing in the early wave, Daly admitted he wasn’t planning to focus on practice afterward. “I would say I’d go hit balls, but I’m a little tired so I’m just probably going to go to the beach and probably do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day,” he said.
The Puerto Rico Open provides an opportunity for emerging players like Daly to showcase their skills while competing on the PGA Tour stage. With his solid debut, Daly has made an early impression, demonstrating both composure and shot-making ability as he navigates his first experience at the highest level of professional golf.
