Tiger Woods has announced that he is stepping away from golf to seek treatment after being arrested in connection with a DUI incident in Jupiter Island, Florida. The arrest followed a rollover crash in which authorities reported signs of impairment. In a public statement, Woods acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and emphasized his decision to prioritize his health and recovery. He asked for privacy for himself and his family while he focuses on improving his well-being and returning in a stronger condition both personally and professionally.
Woods Faces DUI, Property Damage Charges After Distracted Driving Crash Incident
The incident occurred when Woods’ vehicle collided with another while he was reportedly distracted, looking at his phone and adjusting the radio. According to law enforcement, he displayed physical signs of impairment, including slow movements and bloodshot eyes.

Deputies also discovered prescription pills in his pocket, which were later identified as hydrocodone. Although Woods passed a breathalyzer test with a 0.00 result, he declined to take a urine test, which resulted in an additional charge. He now faces charges related to driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to comply with testing procedures.
Following the arrest, Woods entered a plea of not guilty, waived his arraignment, and requested a jury trial. His legal team has not provided further public comment. This marks the second DUI-related incident in the past decade for Woods, who was previously arrested in 2017 under similar circumstances involving prescription medication.
Injury Comeback Halted as Woods Prioritizes Recovery and Steps Away
The situation adds to a series of challenges in Woods’ career, including a serious 2021 car crash that caused major leg injuries and required multiple surgeries. He had only recently returned to competitive play after undergoing additional procedures for his back and a torn Achilles tendon.
As a result of his current situation, Woods has confirmed he will not participate in the upcoming Masters Tournament. He had also been preparing for future competitions, including the U.S. Senior Open later this year. His decision to step away reflects a shift in focus toward recovery and personal stability, placing his health above his immediate return to professional golf.
