Former NBA stars and Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony publicly supported Doncic’s case during NBC’s broadcast of the Mavericks’ 134-128 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. McGrady emphasized that the missed games were family-related, not due to injury or load management, while Anthony highlighted that international players traveling for personal matters should not be penalized.

Mavericks’ Playoff Hopes Complicated by Doncic Injury and Key Player Absences

The timing of Doncic’s injury has been particularly unfortunate for the Mavericks, who had won 16 of 18 games before his absence, positioning themselves as a potential dark-horse playoff contender. Compounding their challenges, teammate Austin Reaves is also expected to miss multiple weeks with an oblique strain, forcing the team to navigate the postseason with key players sidelined.
