The Dallas Cowboys’ hard-fought win over the New York Giants has kept Dak Prescott and the team out of crisis mode for the time being.
Last season, the Cowboys also managed to pull off similar victories on their way to a third straight 12-win season and a playoff appearance. It’s still unclear how this latest win will impact them moving forward.
Dallas (2-2) gets some extra rest following their 20-15 win against the Giants before heading to Pittsburgh for another prime-time game on October 6, which is now uncertain due to concerns about the health of star pass rusher Micah Parsons.
“I think we do a really good job internally focusing on what we’re doing every day,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “I think sometimes our guys give honest answers to the questions from the externals and sometimes there are things said that really don’t reflect the way it is internally.”
After two home losses to New Orleans and Baltimore, where the team fell behind early and struggled defensively, Prescott was not the only one questioning the team’s professionalism, focus, and practice habits.
The star quarterback’s 13th consecutive win over the Giants wasn’t particularly flashy.
However, it resembled last season’s 20-17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers, which came after a disappointing loss in San Francisco. It also reminded fans of a 20-19 victory at home against Detroit late in the season, following two consecutive road losses to Buffalo and Miami.
It’s worth noting that Dallas benefited from a decision in the final moments against the Lions when officials canceled a Detroit 2-point conversion that should have counted.
The Cowboys didn’t apologize for that win, and they aren’t apologizing for this one either.
