Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool midfielder, believes Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi would be the ‘perfect’ replacement if Jurgen Klopp leaves the Premier League giants.
While Jurgen Klopp’s representative quickly dismissed speculation that he might be tempted to take over from the sacked Hansi Flick ahead of Germany’s own European Championships – speaking to ARD Sportschau – speculation about the long-serving Liverpool manager has Danny Murphy wondering what the future could look like in the Anfield dugout.
And the 2001 FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup winner sees no one better suited to take over Klopp’s throne than a man whose exhilarating Brighton side went unbeaten against Liverpool last season, thrashing the Merseyside giants 8-4 on aggregate across three meetings.
Is Roberto de Zerbi a Candidate for the Liverpool Manager Position?
“I have got the answer, so I’m not worried about (Klopp leaving),” Murphy tells talkSPORT (13 September, 12 p.m.). De Zerbi, in my opinion, is ideal. He’ll be ready to take over then.
“I think he plays great football, he has a strong personality, he is learning his trade in this league with Brighton and doing a fantastic job.”
“I do not see a better candidate.”
Since his time at Sassuolo, De Zerbi has been a favorite of footballing hipsters, with Pep Guardiola among his many long-time admirers.
At Brighton, he has introduced his special style of attacking football, which involves many actions and excitement, and it has become really popular. He is built on the good work done by Graham Potter at The Amex stadium.

Now, What is the Real Deal?
Football can change fast. The favorite person today might not be the favorite tomorrow. But I think he is genuinely talented,” says Murphy.
“He’s got something unique. When I met him, I felt he had real authority and a strong presence. Plus, I really admire how his teams play,” Murphy adds.
“But I do not see Klopp leaving for a while.” He has this new influx of players, and he appears to be encouraged by Liverpool’s start (to the season) and the promising start of some of the new signings.”
In another development, Ally McCoist believes Jurgen Klopp will not leave Liverpool to take over as manager of Germany.
