During a playoff game between the Dolphins and the Chiefs, the Dolphins faced not only a defeat on the field but also a loss of their belongings to a thief.

According to prosecutors, a 30-year-old man from Kansas City named John M. Brown stole various items such as media equipment, football gear, gloves, shoes, and game footage from a Dolphins team truck in January.

The total value of the stolen items was $46,376. Dolphins staff members realized the items were missing shortly after the game ended and reported the theft to the police.

Police officers reviewed security camera footage and identified a pickup truck they believed the thief had used. They found some of the missing items in the bed of the pickup truck.

Later, police executed a search warrant at Brown’s home and discovered evidence that he had attempted to burn some of the stolen items.

Detective Craig Leach mentioned in an affidavit that he observed a partially burned Miami Dolphins logo and a fragment of the word ‘video’ among the ashes, along with matching cold weather gear that hadn’t burned.

According to court documents, Brown was already under surveillance as a potential suspect in other theft cases before the playoff game. Additionally, he had been convicted of felony theft and unlawful tampering in 2021.
