During Friday practice, as drivers were trying to get used to the track, Fernando Alonso lost control at Turn 10, kicking up gravel into the air as he went off and then back onto the track. Unfortunately, this flying gravel hit Jelena Dokic in her right eye, causing her to need treatment.
Dokic shared her experience on social media, thanking the paramedics at Mercedes who helped her. Despite the incident, she expressed that it hasn’t deterred her from watching Formula 1 live.
Alonso managed to qualify his Aston Martin in 10th place for the Australian Grand Prix.
However, he faced challenges during the session, including another trip through the gravel, affecting his confidence for his final attempt in Q3.
Reflecting on his performance, Alonso acknowledged his mistakes and the challenges with the car’s handling. He emphasized the importance of managing the tires during the race, aiming to finish in the points.
His teammate, Lance Stroll, qualified in 9th place, resulting in both Aston Martin cars starting on row five for the race.
