CM Punk’s WWE comeback at Survivor Series 2023 stands as one of the most memorable moments in the company’s storied history, with the potential to be even more significant if his second stint proves successful.
The electrifying return occurred immediately following the Men’s WarGames Match, which headlined Survivor Series. Despite initial assumptions that everyone involved in the match was aware of Punk’s return, it turned out to be a surprise for many.
According to Jey Uso, nobody was informed about Punk’s comeback after Cody Rhodes led his team to victory.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Main Event Jey revealed that Punk’s entrance caught everyone off guard, leading to an impromptu break in character. Seth Rollins’ reaction, in particular, garnered significant attention. However, Uso emphasized that the surprise element added to the excitement:
“It was a surprise, Uce. You could tell all of us, that as soon as the music hit, we all stopped being in character. We’re off standing in the middle of the ring talking, like, what’s going on here? I think there’s a clip of me and Randy (Orton) in there talking that’s on the internet.
You see Seth (Rollins) going ham down there. I had no clue, and that’s the fun thing about wrestling. You think you know it all sometimes, but man it’s cool to be surprised every now and then because we’re getting the same reaction as the fans at the same time,” said Jey Uso.
Punk’s return has been met with positive reception thus far, although he has yet to compete in a televised match. That is set to change as the former WWE Champion enters the Royal Rumble Match on Saturday, marking his official return to in-ring action.
