Aaron Rodgers will return to play for the New York Jets one year after his much-anticipated debut with the team was cut short after just four plays.
Rodgers is scheduled to start the season opener on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers, marking his first game back since he tore his Achilles tendon in Week 1 last season.
The 40-year-old Rodgers spent the first 18 years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, where he won four MVP awards and one Super Bowl.
He was traded to the Jets before the 2023 season, a team that has been looking for a top quarterback since Joe Namath left almost 50 years ago.
However, Rodgers’ first season with the Jets ended almost immediately. He entered the field with an American flag for a pregame celebration.
During his first drive against Buffalo, Rodgers was sacked by Leonard Floyd and injured his Achilles. He tried to return later in the season but was unable to.
Rodgers didn’t play in the preseason, so this game against San Francisco will be his first action since his injury. The 49ers had famously passed on drafting him No. 1 overall in 2005, choosing Alex Smith instead.
