In the lead-up to Sunday’s clash against the Eagles, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made a surprising appearance at MetLife Stadium. What caught everyone’s attention was not just his presence but his method of arrival – Rodgers was seen riding a golf cart to the field, defying expectations by not relying on crutches to walk.
Even more surprising was the sight of him throwing the football to Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner on the field. Although he remained stationary, this development was incredibly positive.
This is noteworthy, considering Rodgers had undergone surgery for a torn Achilles on September 13, just two days after he sustained the injury during the Jets’ season opener against the Bills.
Achilles injuries of this nature typically result in season-ending setbacks, with players usually requiring eight-to-ten months for recovery. However, Rodgers, at the age of 39, has expressed his determination to make a comeback this season.
He has even discussed the possibility of returning for a playoff run despite the odds stacked against him, including his age and the nature of his injury. On “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers confidently stated, “Give me the doubts, give me the timetables, give me all the things that you think can, should, or will happen because all I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration. That’s all I need. So give me your doubts, give me your prognostications, and then watch what I do.”
Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed a procedure on Rodgers’ left Achilles, placing an internal brace known as an Achilles speed bridge. This innovative technique aims to safeguard the repair and offers Rodgers the possibility of an earlier return, although nothing is guaranteed.
Rodgers is set to resume full-time activity at the Jets facility following the team’s bye, which occurs immediately after their game against the Eagles. This marks his second consecutive home game attendance, having also been present during the Jets’ 23-20 loss to the Chiefs on October 1.
For Rodgers to make a return this season, the Jets would need to secure a playoff spot, a formidable challenge given the competitive nature of the AFC.
However, Rodgers has expressed confidence in his replacement, Zach Wilson, emphasizing the importance of Wilson’s confidence in himself and his growth during the crucial offseason period. Rodgers remains undeterred, ready to defy the odds and make a remarkable return to the game he loves.
