The San Francisco 49ers have secured a deal with quarterback Joshua Dobbs, providing the team with additional depth behind Brock Purdy. Dobbs’ agent, Mike McCartney, confirmed that Dobbs will be joining the 49ers, filling the void left when Sam Darnold signed with Minnesota last week.
Previously, San Francisco re-signed third-string quarterback Brandon Allen, ensuring two seasoned options behind Purdy.
Dobbs had an eventful 2023 season, beginning with his offseason signing as a backup in Cleveland. He was later traded to Arizona during training camp, where he started the first eight games while Kyler Murray recovered from knee surgery. Subsequently, Dobbs was dealt to the Minnesota Vikings, stepping in after Kirk Cousins sustained a season-ending Achilles injury.
Dobbs made 12 starts and appeared in 13 games last season, exhibiting a completion rate of 62.2% for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 79.5 passer rating. Additionally, he recorded 421 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Dobbs has also spent time with Jacksonville, Cleveland, Detroit, and Tennessee during his career.
In addition to bolstering their quarterback options, the 49ers enhanced their offensive line depth by signing tackle Brandon Parker to a one-year deal. Parker, drafted by the Raiders in the third round in 2018, has accumulated 33 starts and appeared in 59 games throughout his career.
Furthermore, San Francisco formalized several previously reported moves, including a two-year contract with defensive end Leonard Floyd and one-year deals for linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, and cornerbacks Chase Lucas and Isaac Yiadom.
