After a stellar debut season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quarterback Baker Mayfield is reaping the rewards with a lucrative contract extension.
Mayfield has inked a three-year deal worth $100 million, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Sunday. The agreement includes $50 million in guaranteed money and could potentially reach $115 million with performance-based incentives.
In the upcoming season, the 28-year-old is slated to earn a base salary of $30 million, followed by $30 million in 2025—$20 million of which is guaranteed—and $40 million in 2026.
Last season, Mayfield showcased his talent in 17 starts for Tampa Bay, achieving career highs with 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdown throws. He led the team to clinch the NFC South title and secure a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
Having fulfilled his previous one-year contract with the Bucs, Mayfield was on the verge of becoming an unrestricted free agent. Expressing his desire to return to Tampa Bay, he emphasized his admiration for coach Todd Bowles and the coaching staff.
“I’m happy to be here, and I want to win more in the postseason,” Mayfield stated, as conveyed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Mayfield’s extension isn’t the only significant move made by the team ahead of the new league year, set to commence on Wednesday. Last week, veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, Mayfield’s top target in 2023, penned a two-year deal to prolong his tenure with the Buccaneers through the 2025 season.
