Willy Adames and Gary Sánchez hit consecutive home runs in the first inning, and William Contreras later added a two-run homer as the Milwaukee Brewers won 5-2 against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.

Rookie right-hander Tobias Myers (7-5) achieved a career-high 11 strikeouts over six innings, helping Milwaukee avoid a fourth straight loss. The Brewers, who lead the NL Central, are the only major league team this season that hasn’t had a losing streak of four games or more.

Myers shared his thoughts on why the Brewers have been able to avoid long losing streaks.

“We just never give up,” Myers said. “I think even when we lose a game, we always have the tying run at the plate, we always have a chance. We just always believe in each other and just fight until the end, for sure.”

The Rockies saw home runs from Ryan McMahon and Sam Hilliard. Adames gave Milwaukee the lead with a two-out homer off Ty Blach (3-8) in the first inning.

It was Adames’ 30th home run of the season, and he also has 101 RBIs. He came into the game tied with Shohei Ohtani of Los Angeles for the NL lead in RBIs.

Adames is the first shortstop in Brewers history to hit 30 home runs and drive in 100 runs in a season. Hall of Famer Robin Yount, who played his entire career with Milwaukee, never hit more than 29 home runs in a single season.

Sánchez followed Adames with a 418-foot homer to left-center, marking his 10th home run of the year. Milwaukee almost had three consecutive home runs, but Rhys Hoskins’ fly ball was caught by center fielder Brenton Doyle at the warning track.

Contreras increased the lead to 4-0 in the third inning with a two-run homer to right-center, breaking out of an 0 for 20 slump. Joey Ortiz also contributed with an RBI double down the left-field line in the fifth inning.
