Willy Adames smashed a three-run homer, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, but the game turned intense with a brawl between the teams.
The fight started after Brewers pitcher Abner Uribe faced off against Jose Siri, who grounded out leading off the eighth inning. Uribe and Siri got into a verbal altercation near first base, escalating quickly.
With an umpire trying to intervene, Uribe threw a punch at Siri, who swung wildly back at him. Rhys Hoskins, the Brewers’ first baseman, tried to intervene but got knocked down in the scuffle.
“I’m not sure who started it, but I saw them exchanging words, and then it just blew up,” said Hoskins.
Siri claimed Uribe bumped him with his shoulder first. Uribe countered, saying Siri’s words were “unnecessary.”
The tension between Siri and the Brewers had been simmering throughout the game, starting when Siri admired his solo home run off Freddy Peralta in the third inning.
When Siri came up to bat again in the sixth, Peralta hit him with a fastball, resulting in ejections for Peralta and Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
Adames was the star, driving in four runs, while Brice Turang added three RBIs, helping the Brewers break their three-game losing streak.
“That was a big win for us,” said Murphy. “We’ve had some tough losses lately, but the team came out focused, and Freddy pitched exceptionally well.”
Peralta, with seven strikeouts and no walks, allowed only one hit, which was Siri’s home run.
