Jo Adell hit his fifth home run of the season and drove in another run with a single as the Los Angeles Angels narrowly defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Wednesday.
Brandon Drury hit two doubles, one of which contributed to a three-run surge in the sixth inning for Los Angeles. However, Drury left the game due to tightness in his left hamstring and will undergo evaluation when the Angels return home on Thursday.
Zach Neto also had two hits for Los Angeles, while Kevin Pillar, who had six RBIs in the previous game, managed a hit and scored a run. Adam Cimber pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win, and Carlos Estévez secured his sixth save with a perfect ninth inning.
Angels manager Ron Washington emphasized the importance of consistency in their performance, especially after the successful sixth inning rally.
Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz stood out with two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fifth inning. Cruz has been performing well recently, hitting .340 over his last 13 games, following a slow start after recovering from ankle surgery.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton praised Cruz’s talent and recent performance, noting his improvement over the past week.
Connor Joe also contributed with two hits for the Pirates, but they struggled to create scoring opportunities against the Angels’ bullpen, which kept them without a baserunner in the latter part of the game.
