Adolis García will represent the Texas Rangers as the host in Monday night’s Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández has also joined the eight-man lineup.
García was eliminated in the first round last year by Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park.
Two Rangers have previously won the derby: Ruben Sierra and Cincinnati’s Eric Davis shared the title in 1989 at Anaheim Stadium, while Juan Gonzalez claimed victory in 1993 at Baltimore’s Camden Yards.
The New York Mets’ Pete Alonso, Philadelphia’s Alec Bohm, Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson, Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna, Cleveland’s José Ramírez, and Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. had already confirmed their participation in the competition.
García, the MVP of last year’s AL Championship Series, is the lone participant in the derby who was not selected for this year’s All-Star Game.
Alonso will be competing in his fifth consecutive Home Run Derby, aiming to secure his third victory in the event.
