Texas Rangers relief pitcher Brock Burke injured his non-throwing hand when he punched a wall after a tough game against the Houston Astros.
Manager Bruce Bochy explained that Burke broke his right hand out of frustration and was put on the injured list. Burke allowed four runs in the seventh inning of Friday’s game.
Bochy emphasized the importance of passion but warned about the consequences of crossing the line. Despite the incident, Burke will still receive his salary while recovering from the injury.
The Astros were displeased with Burke’s pitching, especially after he almost hit Yordan Alvarez. Bochy defended Burke, stating that he was struggling with control, not intentionally aiming at Alvarez.
Bochy plans to discuss the matter with Burke, recognizing that such incidents stem from a desire to succeed and frustration with losing.
