After an impactful eight-year journey with the Denver Broncos, safety Justin Simmons bids farewell as the team announces his release on Thursday.

“Justin Simmons’ impact as a Denver Bronco extends far beyond his exceptional play during eight seasons with our organization,” the Broncos expressed in a statement.

“In addition to growing into an All-Pro and team captain, Justin became our perennial Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year devoted to uplifting others and using his influence for positive change. Whether it was in Denver or his hometown of Stuart, Florida, Justin inspired and mentored countless youth while providing unwavering support to the community.

The hundreds of hours he spent at the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club will be as much a part of Justin’s legacy with the Broncos as his leadership, dependability, and many interceptions.

“Justin will always be a Bronco, and we thank him for the outstanding manner in which he represented our organization on and off the field. We wish Justin, his wife Taryn, and their children Laney, Shae, and Kyler the very best in the future.”

Drafted as a compensatory third-round pick in 2016, Simmons evolved into one of the NFL’s premier safeties, garnering numerous league honors throughout his tenure.

Over nearly a decade, Simmons secured two Pro Bowl selections, earned four Associated Press second-team All-Pro distinctions, and received recognition on the NFL Top 100 list three times.

Simmons stood out in the 2022 season by tying for the NFL lead in interceptions and maintaining a streak of at least three interceptions per season for six consecutive years — a feat unmatched in the league during that span. He was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Demaryius Thomas Team MVP award by the Pro Football Writers of America Denver chapter for his stellar performance that season.

Throughout his career, Simmons showcased remarkable athleticism and clutch plays, such as game-winning interceptions against notable opponents like the Raiders, Dolphins, and Commanders.

His rookie season highlight included a jaw-dropping leap over the line of scrimmage to block an extra point, setting up a decisive score against the Saints in 2016.

Beyond his on-field contributions, Simmons epitomized leadership and community service, embodying the Broncos’ values both on and off the field.

As a three-time nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award and a four-time recipient of the Broncos’ Community Ambassador award, he made significant impacts in youth development, social justice advocacy, and charitable endeavors.

Simmons’ legacy extends far beyond his statistical achievements, leaving an enduring mark on the Broncos organization and the community of Denver after eight impactful seasons.
