Due to security concerns amid the Russian invasion, the game was played in neutral Poland, where Ukrainian fans displayed banners criticizing Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
Georgia, led by star forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, will make their debut in a major tournament after defeating Greece 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a tense 0-0 draw. The victory sparked wild celebrations among Georgia fans, who flooded the field in jubilation.
Poland secured their place in Euro 2024 by edging past Wales 5-4 in a penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny making a crucial save. The win was particularly significant for Poland captain Robert Lewandowski, who admitted he might have retired from international football had they lost.
Euro 2024 will see Ukraine in Group F alongside Belgium, Romania, and Slovakia, while Georgia joins Group F to face Portugal, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. Poland will compete in Group D against tough opponents France, the Netherlands, and Austria. The tournament will take place in 10 German cities from June 14 to July 14.
