Bayern Munich’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, couldn’t understand why his team collapsed against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Bayern was winning 2-0 at halftime with goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry. But in the second half, they gave up three goals and lost 3-2, marking their second straight Bundesliga loss.
Tuchel said he couldn’t explain what happened. He mentioned that within the first 15 minutes of the second half, they stopped playing as they did in the first half.
He had warned his players during halftime that Heidenheim might change their strategy and play with two forwards, but they didn’t adjust.
Kevin Sessa scored one goal for Heidenheim, and Tim Kleindienst equalized just a minute later. Then Kleindienst scored the winning goal in the 79th minute.
This was Heidenheim’s first-ever win against Bayern. Bayern is now 16 points behind Bundesliga leader Bayer Leverkusen with six games left.
Tuchel said it was hard to maintain concentration and fight when they were leading. He described the situation but found it difficult to explain why it happened.
Next, Bayern faces Arsenal, who are on a seven-game unbeaten streak, winning six of those games.
