Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has made key decisions regarding his coaching staff, opting to retain and elevate assistants Freddie Roach and Robert Gillespie.

In an announcement made on Wednesday, DeBoer revealed that Roach, who has been instrumental as the Crimson Tide’s defensive line coach, will take on the role of associate head coach. Gillespie, known for his work as the team’s running backs coach, will continue in his position with the additional responsibility of assistant head coach.

Both Roach and Gillespie have previously served under DeBoer’s predecessor, Nick Saban.

Expressing his confidence in the duo, DeBoer emphasized the importance of their continued presence within the coaching staff. He highlighted their strong connections with the players, exceptional recruiting skills, and track record as top-notch coaches in the nation.

Roach, a former player for Alabama, has been part of the Tide’s coaching staff for the past four seasons, while Gillespie is entering his fourth year in Tuscaloosa.

The specifics of their contracts are pending approval by the Board of Trustees.

Meanwhile, two of DeBoer’s former colleagues from Washington, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff, have departed to assume the same roles with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
