Alex Pereira, a UFC fighter, recently shared his personal battle with alcohol addiction during a session aimed at helping young people in Connecticut who are struggling with similar issues.
He was joined by his mentor, former UFC champion Glover Teixeira, and their conversation was documented on Pereira’s YouTube channel. This session provided Pereira with a platform to open up about his early experiences with alcohol.
Pereira disclosed that his addiction started at the tender age of 12, and as he grew older, his dependency on alcohol intensified. Despite his awareness of the problem, he found it increasingly difficult to stop drinking.
His environment made it even harder, as he lacked access to the resources and support systems that could have helped him earlier in his journey.
With the help of Teixeira, who translated Pereira’s story, they highlighted the significant challenges Pereira faced in overcoming his addiction. After a prolonged battle lasting four years, Pereira finally succeeded in quitting alcohol, demonstrating immense strength and determination to reclaim control over his life.
Pereira’s story was shared as a source of inspiration for others who might be dealing with substance abuse. The session ended with a reminder of the importance of seeking help, encouraging individuals to reach out to resources like the SAMHSA’s National Helpline, which offers support to those in need.
