Alpine is facing a tough start to the F1 2024 season, finding themselves at the bottom of the standings without any points after the first four races. Recent reports suggested that Renault Group might consider selling the team due to its struggles.
Over the past year, there have been many changes within the Renault factory team. Despite aiming to narrow the gap to the top three teams, Alpine couldn’t meet this goal last season. Additionally, changes in management, including CEO Laurent Rossi being replaced by Philippe Krief, and alterations in technical leadership have contributed to the team’s challenges.
However, Alpine has refuted claims of being up for sale, asserting that such rumors are untrue. They emphasized that the team is not available for purchase. Any potential sale would likely include a condition to continue using the Renault power unit, ensuring job security for the staff at the engine facility in France.
Recent rumors also circulated about Esteban Ocon’s contract status for 2025 and potential discontent among board members regarding discussions of him moving to Mercedes. However, these rumors lack evidence, and discussions between Alpine and Ocon regarding his future are ongoing.
The speculation about a sale comes shortly after Otro Capital’s investment in the team, which brought several high-profile athletes into the fold as investors. The investment valued Alpine’s F1 team at around $900 million, with Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney also participating through Maximum Effort Investments.
