Tattoos commemorating significant moments are not uncommon, but Andre Lima’s latest ink might just stand out from the crowd.
During a UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas last Saturday, Lima found himself in the midst of a memorable encounter with Igor Severino. The bout took an unexpected turn when Severino, in his UFC debut, was disqualified for biting Lima on the arm.
Prompted by the incident, a Nevada State Athletic Commission doctor was summoned to inspect the bite. Upon confirming the nature of the injury, referee Chris Tognoni swiftly terminated the fight.
However, Lima opted for a unique way to immortalize the event. Taking to Instagram that very night, he shared a screenshot from Dana White’s story, showcasing his newly inked arm. Positioned exactly where Severino had bitten him, the tattoo depicted the bite mark alongside the caption, “I got f–king bit bonus.”
White, the UFC CEO, initially intended to reward Lima with a $25,000 bonus for his ordeal. Yet, upon witnessing the tattoo, he decided to double the amount, offering Lima $50,000 instead.
Meanwhile, Severino, experiencing his first career defeat, faced consequences beyond the octagon as he was released from the UFC.
Reflecting on the incident, White expressed disappointment in the outcome of what could have been an exciting clash between two promising, undefeated fighters. In a text message to combat sports reporter Kevin Iole, White emphasized the folly of resorting to biting in frustration, highlighting the severe repercussions Severino now faces with the NSAC.
