The Chiefs have many players returning from their back-to-back championships, but one important spot on the offense will be filled by a player who doesn’t have any Super Bowl rings yet.

Second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia is expected to start at left tackle against the Ravens on Thursday night.

Some teams might hesitate to put a rookie in charge of protecting their star quarterback’s blind side, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is not worried about Suamataia blocking for Patrick Mahomes.

“I’m sure there’ll be some ups and downs as he goes, like any young player has,” Reid said, via Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star. “But he’s prepared himself, and it’s time to go play now.”

The Chiefs have had several left tackles during their successful run with Mahomes leading the offense. If Suamataia performs well, it could be a long time before the Chiefs need to find a new left tackle.
