On Sunday, Angel Reese set the WNBA record for most rebounds in a single season during the Chicago Sky’s 79-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Reese finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds, marking her 24th double-double of the season, a rookie record.
She now has 418 rebounds, averaging 13.1 per game, surpassing Sylvia Fowles’ previous record of 404 rebounds set in 2018. Reese also set a new record for offensive rebounds with 165, breaking Yolanda Griffiths’ record of 162 from 2001.
Reese and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces are the only players this season with at least four games of 15 or more points and 15 or more rebounds.
Courtney Williams scored 22 points for the Lynx, tying her season high. Kayla McBride added 17 points and Napheesa Collier chipped in 15 points for Minnesota (24-9).
The Lynx, who had their six-game winning streak ended on Friday with a loss to Dallas, have the best record since the Olympic break with an 8-1 record.
The Sky (11-21) have now lost six straight games and are tied with Atlanta for the final playoff spot after the Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks later on Sunday.
Kamilla Cardoso led the Sky with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Michaela Onyenwere scored 15 points. Minnesota took control early with a 14-4 run, and despite a late push from the Sky, the Lynx held on for the win.
