Defender Antonio Rüdiger is poised for a comeback as Real Madrid faces Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga on Sunday, February 25.
Rudiger has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during Los Blancos’ 2-0 victory over Getafe on February 2. During his absence, the Spanish giants have contested four matches, securing two wins and two draws. They secured a home victory against Girona and drew against Atlético Madrid at home and Rayo Vallecano away.
Additionally, they emerged victorious against RB Leipzig away in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg. In anticipation of Rudiger’s return, manager Ancelotti confirmed during a pre-match press conference (via Madrid Xtra):
“Rüdiger will START tomorrow.”
With Eder Militao and David Alaba sidelined due to ACL injuries this season, Rudiger remains the sole center-back for Real Madrid alongside Nacho Fernandez. He has amassed 30 appearances across competitions this season, contributing two goals and one assist.
However, the team faces setbacks as seven players will be absent for the Sevilla clash. Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga are suspended, while Thibaut Courtois, Alaba, Militao, and Jude Bellingham are sidelined with injuries. Furthermore, Joselu has recently joined the injury list and is expected to miss three to four weeks.
