While the U.S. Olympic team may still be considered the strongest for the Olympics, they didn’t have all the top players on Saturday night’s All-Star Game.
Ogunbowale set a new scoring record for the All-Star Game with 34 points, and Clark came close to breaking the assist record in her first appearance. The WNBA team defeated the U.S. Olympic team 117-109 for their second consecutive victory in this matchup. Ogunbowale, who was also the MVP of last year’s game, repeated her stellar performance.
“This game will be incredibly beneficial for us. We don’t have many opportunities to play together,” remarked Breanna Stewart, who led the U.S. team with 31 points. “We’ll review the footage and focus on improving. It felt a bit like deja vu, but we’ll stay focused.”
The loss in 2021 didn’t hinder the Americans, who went on to win their seventh straight Olympic gold medal. They aim for similar success in Paris later this month. The depth and talent of the WNBA All-Stars proved unmatched by any team in the world.
