WNBA standout Arike Ogunbowale recently shared a light-hearted moment about tennis pro-Frances Tiafoe’s playful claim regarding his basketball skills, particularly in the NBA.
Ogunbowale, renowned for her role as point guard with the Dallas Wings and a three-time WNBA All-Star, first crossed paths with Tiafoe during the 2023 NBA All-Star Celebrity game. Both were part of Team Wade, led by basketball legend Dwayne Wade, alongside notable celebrities like Indian actor Ranveer Singh and rapper 21 Savage.
Despite Tiafoe’s more prominent presence in tennis, his cameo in the NBA All-Star game saw him netting four points for Team Wade, contributing to their 81-78 victory over Team Ryan, led by Utah Jazz governor Ryan Smith.
Reflecting on their camaraderie at the NBA event, Tiafoe, currently participating in the ATP Dallas Open, shared in an on-court interview with TennisTV:
“She (Arike Ogunbowale) was on my All-Star team, we got close from that point on, and we’ve had some good nights out here in Dallas. She’s one of my really good friends, we speak all the time…”
During the conversation, the interviewer prompted Ogunbowale, joined by Tiafoe, to discuss Tiafoe’s basketball prowess and any advice she might have offered him. Playfully, the 26-year-old WNBA star quipped:
“He [Frances Tiafoe] always claims that if we put him in an NBA game, he’ll give at least 10 points, but I just let him think that, we know that’s not true, but I let him think that.”
