Kyler Murray had a brief reaction on social media when he heard that Aaron Donald was retiring after 10 years of pressuring quarterbacks for the Los Angeles Rams.
“ .” THANK GOD
Murray’s post was meant to be funny and got a lot of laughs online. But there was some truth behind the joke—Murray has had a hard time against the Rams, and Donald was a big reason for that.
“He’s in my eyes the best of all time, so I’m definitely glad that he’s not going to be out there on Sunday for sure,” Murray said.
It’s uncertain if Donald’s departure will impact a rivalry that has been one-sided in recent seasons.
The Cardinals (0-1) will face the Rams (0-1) on Sunday, both teams from the NFC West. Los Angeles has won 13 of the last 15 games in the series and has won nine straight games at State Farm Stadium.
“They’re still obviously well-coached,” Murray said. “They have a lot of great young players up there that play super hard.
Like I said, again, (they’re) well-coached, play super hard.
Those things are unmatched. Any D-line that plays really hard and tries to get after the quarterback the way they do is just going to be a tough matchup for you.”
Both teams had similar Week 1 results, playing tough games against strong opponents but ending up losing. Arizona was defeated by the Buffalo Bills 34-28, while the Rams lost to the Detroit Lions 26-20 in overtime.
Despite the losses, both teams were somewhat positive about their performances. The Rams struggled with injuries against the Lions, losing top receiver Puka Nacua and offensive linemen Steve Avila and Joe Noteboom, who were all placed on injured reserve this week.
