Gabriel Moreno leaves the field after an injury

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno left Monday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians due to a left groin injury.

Moreno got on base with an infield single in the second inning but then fell to the ground after reaching the bag. The 24-year-old Gold Glove winner lay on the field in pain for several minutes before limping back to the dugout.

Moreno’s grounder had first hit the left foot of pitcher Logan Allen, who had been hit on the head by a Randal Grichuk line drive in the first inning.

José Herrera pinch ran for Moreno and took over as catcher.

Herrera is the only other catcher on the active roster, as first baseman Christian Walker, who is normally the emergency backup, is on the injured list with a strained left oblique.

This season, Moreno is batting .262 with five home runs and 41 RBIs in 86 games.
