Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Jose Herrera had to leave the game on Friday night against the Houston Astros after being hit on the top of his head by Kyle Tucker’s follow-through during the fifth inning.
Tucker struck out while swinging, and his bat accidentally hit Herrera’s helmet. Herrera fell to the ground, and manager Torey Lovullo along with a trainer quickly went to check on him.
Tucker, who was filling in for starter Gabriel Moreno due to a groin injury, sat on the ground for a few minutes before Lovullo helped him by supporting his back while the trainer talked to him.
Herrera was eventually helped up and taken to the dugout. Adrian Del Castillo took his place in the game.
The team has not yet given an update on Herrera’s condition.
