Arsenal’s injury scare seems to have turned true as Mikel Arteta gives bad news about Gabriel Martinelli. The 22-year-old’s gameplay was hindered by a hamstring problem shortly after getting treated after having opened a possible goal against Everton. The player was substituted during the Arsenal vs. Everton match on 17th September 2023 at Goodison Park.
The player was substituted by Leandro Trossard. Trossard later proved this rotation to be the correct decision by scoring a goal for the win of Arsenal. Martinelli was sent straight for aid and was later benched for the rest of the game.
The Arsenal boss is once again dealing with the recurring issue of an injury. Though the team has several players who could substitute for Martinelli, the player’s absence could be a fatal blow to the Gunners.
But this absence could also be beneficial for some as Trossard may get the opportunity to play on the frontline in the team as the Champions League approaches. Gabriel Jesus was also substituted during the match against the Toffees, where he showed his sharp actions in the game.
Martinelli has been avoiding injuries in the past few years. Since his return from a major knee problem in December 2020, the player has only missed five games for Arsenal. The 22-year-old is said to have also had cartilage damage in his left knee during the London Colney training.
The Boss’ take on the situation
In the public appearance after the win against Everton, the Arsenal boss gave an insight into Martinelli’s condition. Martinelli is said to have felt something in his hamstring, so the team is set to assess his condition.
The player is said to have received a hit during the training, which could have damaged his knee. The doctors are still observing the condition of the player, but things are not looking good at all, stated Arteta.
The severity of the injury still remains unclear, but Martinelli’s presence in the Champions League group is highly doubted. As Arsenal’s Thomas Partey still remains out of the game due to his groin injury, the team may lose another player to an injury.
Arteta was further pushed for a return date for the player, to which the Spaniard replied that they did not know but it could take months.
He continued on to talk about the injuries faced by the players recently as two players bang each other, or if something happens like what happened with Pablo Mari on his own, the injuries incurred are not muscular.
They are traumatic injuries. Arteta expressed his disappointment with the same as he said that they have been unlucky with this and have to deal with it.
