Arsenal reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League standings, if only for a day, by defeating Luton 2-0 on Wednesday.

The home team secured a comfortable victory with Martin Odegaard’s goal and an own goal by Daiki Hashioka in the first half. This win momentarily placed Arsenal one point ahead of Liverpool in the intense competition for the league title.

Despite facing a team threatened by relegation, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta made several changes to the squad, resting key players like Bukayo Saka. The outcome of the game was largely decided before halftime.

Arsenal took the lead in the 24th minute with Odegaard’s well-placed shot after a series of passes. Shortly before halftime, an attempt by Reiss Nelson led to an own goal by Hashioka, further extending Arsenal’s lead.

Although Luton has shown resilience throughout the season, they couldn’t stage a comeback this time.

The second half was relatively uneventful, with Arsenal comfortably maintaining their lead. Luton failed to score, marking their first goalless game in 19 league matches.

Arteta praised his team’s performance, especially the players who came in as substitutes, and acknowledged the challenge of maintaining momentum against Luton’s defensive tactics. Despite the loss, Luton remains in 18th place in the league standings, three points away from safety.
