Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have secured the sixth seed in the WNBA playoffs.
The exact matchups for the opening round won’t be known until at least Tuesday, as six of the other seven playoff spots are still up for grabs. Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury are already set in the seventh spot.
The WNBA regular season will wrap up in the final four days this week, with all 12 teams playing on Thursday to end the season. The playoffs will start on Sunday.
The Fever are likely to face Connecticut, which is currently the No. 3 seed. Clark’s WNBA career began against Connecticut back in May. Clark had an outstanding season, setting both the WNBA single-season assist record and the rookie scoring record.
She broke the previous scoring record on Sunday with a season-high 35 points, surpassing Seimone Augustus’ 744 points set in 2006. Clark now has 761 points for the season.
Connecticut is two games behind the Minnesota Lynx for the No. 2 seed with two games remaining. The two teams will face off on Tuesday in Connecticut, and the Sun hold the tiebreaker.
The Lynx could still claim the top overall seed after their win over New York on Sunday. They are two games behind the Liberty and hold the tiebreaker. For the Lynx to secure the top spot, New York would need to lose both their remaining games, and Minnesota would need to win their last two.
Who will face the top team is still uncertain. Chicago, Washington, and Atlanta are currently tied for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Dream stayed in contention by winning an overtime game against the Mystics on Sunday. Chicago missed an opportunity to take the lead by losing to Phoenix at home.
Chicago will play Atlanta on Tuesday, with the winner gaining an advantage for the last playoff spot. Washington will host league-leading New York on Tuesday and then face the Fever on Thursday. Chicago will visit Connecticut on the same night.
