NBA Fans Mock James Harden After Clippers Star Attempts to Block Kawhi Leonard

During the Los Angeles Clippers victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night, James Harden momentarily succumbed to his intrusive thoughts, leading to a bizarre moment on the court.

In the third quarter of the game, Harden, a seasoned player with numerous All-Star appearances, made an unusual move. He deliberately closed out on his teammate Kawhi Leonard in the corner, seemingly attempting to block Leonard’s three-point shot.

However, despite Harden’s unexpected interference, the possession resulted in a successful basket for the Clippers, as Harden passed to Amir Coffey who was left open on the perimeter.

The perplexing incident prompted various reactions from fans and observers, who took to social media to express their confusion and amusement. Some speculated about Harden’s motives, wondering if he had momentarily forgotten the context of the game or if he was simply aiming for a highlight moment.

Others found humor in the situation, praising Harden’s defensive effort while humorously noting the irony of him contesting his own teammate’s shot.

Responding to the speculation, Harden later explained to reporters that his intention was to inject some levity into the team’s atmosphere and provide a moment of amusement for his teammates in the locker room.

While Harden’s actions may have raised eyebrows, they also sparked playful banter among fans and commentators. Some jokingly suggested that Harden might be operating as a “sleeper agent” within his own team, a nod to his past instances of unconventional behavior, often associated with trade requests or high-stakes playoff games.

Harden’s brief lapse in judgment served as an unexpected moment of entertainment in an otherwise routine basketball game, highlighting the playful dynamics that can emerge within professional sports teams.

Seahawks Insider Predicts Sam Howell to Challenge Geno Smith for Starting QB Spot in NFL

According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Geno Smith’s position as the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks might face a degree of challenge in 2024 following the team’s acquisition of Sam Howell.

Henderson noted that a source within the Seahawks organization believes Howell possesses both the skill and determination to compete with Smith for the starting role. The insider expressed confidence that Howell will put forth a strong effort in the competition.

This situation bears some resemblance to the narrative surrounding Seattle’s acquisition of Drew Lock in 2022 as part of the Russell Wilson trade. Initially, there was speculation that Lock could potentially surpass Smith in the absence of Wilson. However, Smith not only retained the starting position but also went on to win the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Nevertheless, the circumstances this time around are somewhat different. The departure of Pete Carroll and the appointment of Mike Macdonald as head coach marked the beginning of a new era for the Seahawks, possibly indicating a shift towards a more forward-looking approach under general manager John Schneider.

While Smith is coming off two consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, his performance saw a slight decline in 2023. His completion percentage, yards per game, and QBR were all slightly lower compared to the previous year.

Should Smith’s performance continue to regress in the upcoming season, Macdonald may be less inclined to stick with him as the starter compared to Carroll. According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, there has been longstanding interest within the Seahawks organization regarding Howell’s potential.

Moreover, teams like the Seahawks have been intrigued by Howell’s ability to step into a starting role with minimal experience and handle a high volume of passes.

The Seahawks’ decision to acquire Howell, a 2022 fifth-round pick, suggests that they envision him as a potential QB1 in both the short and long term.

Kansas Fans Praise Hunter Dickinson’s Performance in March Madness Victory Despite McCullar’s Injury

The fourth-seeded Kansas basketball team faced a significant challenge in their NCAA tournament opener against the 13th-seeded Samford squad, notably missing their top scorer, Kevin McCullar Jr. Despite this setback, senior center Hunter Dickinson emerged as a pivotal figure, steering the Jayhawks away from potential defeat.

In a remarkable display, Dickinson notched 19 points and an astounding 20 rebounds, along with five assists and four blocks, propelling Kansas to a hard-fought 93-89 win and securing their passage to the Round of 32. The Jayhawks, plagued by injury concerns and recent performance struggles, defied expectations, largely thanks to Dickinson’s heroics.

Aside from the absence of McCullar, Dickinson himself wasn’t operating at full capacity, nursing a dislocated shoulder sustained in their regular-season finale on March 9. However, he demonstrated remarkable resilience, delivering his 17th double-double of the season in commanding fashion, single-handedly outrebounding Samford’s entire starting lineup.

Contributions also came from K.J. Adams, who added 20 points, bolstering the Jayhawks’ collective effort as they shot an impressive 60.3% from the field. Nicolas Timberlake and Johnny Furphy chipped in with 19 and 16 points, respectively, crucially fending off Samford’s comeback attempts.

Despite Samford narrowing the gap to just one point late in the game, a contentious foul call, initially perceived as a block, swung in favor of Kansas.

Dickinson’s stellar performance didn’t go unnoticed, sparking admiration across social media platforms:

Kansas Men’s Basketball Twitter account highlighted Dickinson’s consistency with a 17th double-double of the season.

Fans like Sam Winton noted the team’s elevated energy with Dickinson’s return to the lineup.

Josh Weinfuss praised Dickinson’s adept passing skills, which are a significant asset in his repertoire.

PJ Green emphasized Dickinson’s dominance on the court, asserting the advantage of his towering stature.

A comparison to the “Winter Soldier” character from Marvel Comics, made by Smoke Tokz Kansas, underscored Dickinson’s imposing presence.

Ariel Puterman’s halftime analysis emphasized the positive impact of Dickinson’s presence on the team’s performance.

Adam Sullivan highlighted Dickinson’s historical achievement, tying Dave Robisch for ninth place in single-season double-doubles in Kansas history.

Bleacher Report shared a contentious moment, questioning whether a critical foul call was legitimate or not.

Having transferred from Michigan for his senior season, Dickinson’s decision proved fruitful, particularly with Michigan’s absence from the NCAA tournament. Throughout the season, he consistently delivered for the Jayhawks, and his pivotal role in Thursday’s victory underscored his importance amid the team’s injury woes.

Looking ahead, Kansas faces a formidable challenge against the fifth-seeded Gonzaga in the second round on Saturday. Another standout performance from Dickinson will be imperative if the Jayhawks aspire to extend their tournament journey.

Jack Gohlke’s March Madness Heroics: Oakland’s Iconic Upset of Kentucky

Defense emerged as the paramount concern for the Kentucky Wildcats during the 2024 men’s NCAA tournament, and it took only 40 minutes for the Oakland Grizzlies to underscore why.

In particular, they relied on Jack Gohlke.

A seasoned sixth-year senior, he commenced the evening as a relative unknown on the national stage. However, with a bit of assistance from his newfound comrades, this transfer from Hillsdale College—a Division II institution in Michigan—concluded Thursday with one of the most outstanding three-point shooting displays in the annals of March Madness.

In the process, Gohlke and the Horizon League-champion Grizzlies secured an 80-76 victory, ousting the third-seeded Kentucky team from the Big Dance.

“NO. 14 OAKLAND UPSETS NO. 3 KENTUCKY IN THE 1ST ROUND 😱 THIS. IS. MARCH.,” declared Bleacher Report.

Whether one had been following Oakland’s journey throughout the season or merely glanced at some statistics, the expectation was clear: Gohlke would be launching threes in Pittsburgh.

Gohlke entered the first-round matchup with an impressive 327 three-point attempts for the season. Inside the arc? A mere eight.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Throughout the season, Gohlke only attempted eight two-point shots while averaging 9.6 long-range attempts per game. Despite this, he managed to connect on 37 percent of those three-pointers, contributing 12.2 points per game as a perimeter specialist coming off the bench.

Thursday night saw the 24-year-old deliver an extraordinary performance. Gohlke sank 10 three-pointers—joining the ranks of only five other players in NCAA tournament history to achieve such a feat—and racked up a season-high 32 points, igniting the program’s inaugural first-round triumph in March Madness.

“An all-time great #MarchMadness performance 👏 Take a bow Jack Gohlke 🙌,” hailed NCAA March Madness.

Oakland’s last appearance in the tournament was in 2011, where they narrowly lost to fourth-seeded Texas, 85-81. Prior to that, they had a play-in game victory and a 28-point defeat in 2005, as well as a 23-point loss in 2010. Putting an end to this streak by defeating a prestigious program like Kentucky was a remarkable achievement.

However, Gohlke wasn’t the sole hero. Oakland’s well-drilled zone defense forced the nation’s second-best scoring offense to toil relentlessly. Kentucky struggled to find easy scoring opportunities, managing only a 42.6 shooting percentage, its seventh-lowest of the season.

Seizing a 46-45 lead with 14:38 left on the clock, Oakland never relinquished it, though maintaining the lead was always a tense affair.

Kentucky narrowed the deficit to just one or two points on five occasions in the final eight minutes, but the Grizzlies consistently responded. Whether through defensive stops or crucial three-pointers—such as the clutch shot from Gohlke and two from DQ Cole, including a decisive one in the last minute—Oakland displayed unwavering resolve.

In essence, Oakland exuded fearlessness.

Despite Kentucky’s persistent pressure and a roster teeming with NBA prospects, the 14th-seeded Grizzlies remained resolute, denying UK coach John Calipari a chance at advancing to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive NCAA tournament.

From the outset, an upset seemed plausible.

Kentucky struggled to score in the opening five minutes, while Gohlke embarked on his remarkable performance. He sank threes on consecutive possessions twice during the first half, amassing 21 points by halftime and guiding Oakland to a 38-35 lead.

The standout player of the night exuded unwavering confidence, a trait undoubtedly nurtured by the trust he has earned from Greg Kampe, who has been Oakland’s head coach since 1984.

“Just go shoot it, baby. You’re the best,” Kampe reassured the veteran sharpshooter ahead of the game.

Gohlke duly obliged. And indeed, he proved to be the best.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday in the second round, he has etched his name into the lore of March Madness. Oakland’s next opponent—No. 11-seeded North Carolina State—must brace themselves to contain him, hoping to prevent him from emulating the celestial performance of Stephen Curry in 2008 at Davidson.

In his postgame interview, Gohlke, in his characteristic humility, offered a quick scouting report: “I’ll be firing again.”

However, stopping him is easier said than done, as Kentucky learned in the most challenging manner possible, with Gohlke emerging as the primary concern for the Wolfpack’s defense.

Despite the challenges following surgery, Sainz makes a remarkable comeback to F1 racing by securing second place in qualifying in Australia

Carlos Sainz went from being in a hospital bed a few weeks ago to being at the front of the grid for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Sainz, who drives for Ferrari, had to miss the last F1 race in Saudi Arabia because of appendicitis. Despite having surgery, he quickly tried to come back for the third round of the season in Melbourne.

His comeback was successful. During qualifying on the temporary street circuit at Albert Park, he finished second-fastest on Saturday, just behind Max Verstappen, who has won the first two F1 races this season.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks, a lot of days in bed waiting for this moment to see if I could be here today,” Sainz said.

Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz

“To make it to this weekend and then obviously to put it on the front row after leading through qualifying, I was almost not believing it, especially after how tough it’s been.”

However, it wasn’t all easy. “I was a bit rusty at the beginning yesterday, but then I got up to speed, and I could finally find the pace, and I’m feeling good with the car,” he said.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m not in my most comfortable state when I’m driving out there, but I can get it done,” he added. “And as far as I can get it done without pain… a lot of discomfort and weird feelings, but no pain, so it allows me to push flat-out.”

Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 28 points, including the basket that won the game with just 1.2 seconds left, leading the short-handed Memphis Grizzlies to a 99-97 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night. Despite Victor Wembanyama’s impressive performance with 31 points and 16 rebounds, Memphis snapped a four-game losing streak.

Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins praised Jackson’s composure and teamwork in the crucial moments. San Antonio managed to tie the game with consecutive 3-pointers in the final seconds, but Jackson’s clutch shot sealed the win for Memphis.

Wembanyama continued his strong season with his 38th double-double, joining a select group of rookies with impressive stats. Despite his stellar performance, Wembanyama expressed frustration with the team’s performance, emphasizing the need for consistent aggression.

Scotty Pippen Jr. and Santi Aldama contributed to Memphis’ victory with solid performances, while Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 27 points.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich lamented the team’s turnovers and poor shooting, highlighting the challenges they faced throughout the game. With the loss, San Antonio faces an uphill battle to avoid finishing with their worst record in franchise history.

Memphis played without several key players due to injuries but still managed to secure their 13th consecutive victory over the Spurs. Coach Jenkins praised his team’s resilience, especially on the road.

The Knicks are confronted with a challenging choice regarding whether Julius Randle will be available

Julius Randle has been absent from the Knicks’ last 22 games due to a dislocated right shoulder. While he is making progress towards a comeback, doubts linger about his availability for New York, which could affect their chances in the playoffs.

According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the Knicks are taking a cautious approach with Randle’s return. Despite Randle’s strong desire to play, there are concerns about the potential consequences of rushing him back into action.

While Randle has shown remarkable pain tolerance, there’s uncertainty about whether playing through the discomfort could worsen his condition and affect his performance.

Naturally, every competitive team wants their top players on the court, especially someone like Randle who was having an outstanding season before his injury.

However, if playing him risks aggravating his injury further, it may be wiser for the coaching staff to keep him sidelined.

The Knicks must handle the situation carefully. While they aim for Randle’s availability in the playoffs, it’s crucial to prioritize his health. The recent acquisitions of players like OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Alec Burks were made to bolster the team’s postseason prospects.

However, players need to be at their best or close to it for playoff success.

Fortunately, Mitchell Robinson is nearing his return from injury, and there’s optimism about Anunoby’s availability before the playoffs. If Randle isn’t fit to play, head coach Tom Thibodeau can rely on the depth of talent on the roster to remain competitive. Randle should prioritize his long-term health, even if it means sitting out for the time being.

Joe Bryant, Father of Kobe Bryant, Places 2000 NBA Championship Ring for Auction

Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, father of the late Kobe Bryant, has decided to auction off Kobe’s 2000 Los Angeles Lakers NBA championship ring.

Kobe, known for his generosity, had gifted his parents his first NBA championship ring. Reports suggest that back in 2013, the Bryant family had contemplated selling it, along with several other prized memorabilia items. However, they eventually withdrew the ring from the market, choosing to retain this symbol of Kobe’s monumental achievement.

Interestingly, the ring-up for auction is not the original team-issued executive version. Instead, it’s a duplicate that Kobe personally ordered at the time, intending it as a special gift for his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant.

The auction, hosted by Goldin Auctions, is currently ongoing until March 30. As of early Thursday afternoon, the highest bid stands at $94,000.

Described as “obtained directly from the Bryant family,” this ring holds a unique significance. It is confirmed as the only championship ring ever bestowed by Kobe upon his father.

Crafted from 14-karat gold, the ring weighs 59.6 grams and boasts an array of 40 diamonds. Its design is adorned with the words “WORLD CHAMPIONS,” “LAKERS,” “BRYANT,” and the whimsical addition of “BLING BLING.”
