Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly urged Xavi to reconsider his decision to leave the La Liga giants and stay for one more season.
According to SPORT, Laporta has personally communicated to Xavi his desire for the coach to honor the final year of his contract.
Despite Xavi’s initial announcement of his departure at the end of the current season, Laporta and the board, including sporting vice president Rafa Yuste, believe that retaining Xavi is the optimal solution given the challenges in finding a suitable replacement amidst the club’s financial constraints.
Recent improvements in Barcelona’s performance under Xavi’s leadership may sway his decision. The team has been undefeated in their last six matches across various competitions since Xavi’s announcement, showcasing an encouraging resurgence.
Moreover, Xavi enjoys the support of his players, and his familiarity with the club and its economic challenges further bolsters his position.
Under Xavi’s guidance, Barcelona ended a four-year La Liga title drought last season, demonstrating his managerial prowess.
Despite facing ups and downs in the ongoing campaign, Barcelona remains competitive, currently tied 1-1 on aggregate with Napoli in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, with the second leg scheduled for March 12th.
