Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is potentially set to return for their upcoming La Liga fixture against Athletic Club on Sunday, March 3, according to reports from Barca Universal.
The Spanish international suffered a hamstring injury during Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Osasuna on January 31, sidelining him for six matches across various competitions. However, recent reports suggest that Torres, along with defender Marcos Alonso, is progressing well in his rehabilitation and could be back in action this weekend.
Before his injury setback, Torres had been in fine form, contributing 11 goals and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this season.
His imminent return will undoubtedly bolster Barcelona’s attacking options as they aim to keep the pressure on league leaders Real Madrid.
Speaking about Torres’ potential comeback after Barcelona’s 4-0 win against Getafe on Saturday, Xavi stated, “We’ll see how he feels, but at the moment he’s good. I can’t give you an exact date.” Regarding the title race, Xavi emphasized the team’s focus on maintaining pressure on Girona and Real Madrid until the end of the season.
Currently, Barcelona sits second in the league standings, trailing Real Madrid by eight points. However, their position could change depending on the result of Girona’s match against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.
