Joey Bart hit a grand slam, and the Pittsburgh Pirates scored six runs in the sixth inning to cruise past the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 on Tuesday night.
All-Star Bryan Reynolds, Rowdy Tellez, Jack Suwinski, and Joshua Palacios also hit home runs for the Pirates. It was only the 12th time in 42 games since 2019 that Pittsburgh has won in Milwaukee. The Brewers allowed a season-high five home runs in this game, and the Pirates have hit 15 home runs in their last five games.
“We kept up our strong hitting and added runs consistently throughout the game,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton commented. “I’m proud of the team’s performance and their consistent at-bats.”
The Pirates have hit home runs in 12 consecutive games at American Family Field. “The stadium has a nice look and feel,” Reynolds said. “It’s a great place to hit.”
Quinn Priester (1-5) pitched six innings in relief to earn the win, giving up one earned run and four hits while striking out a career-high eight batters.
“It feels good to contribute to the win and support the team,” Priester said. “Our offense was strong tonight, which made my job easier.”
Bart hit his second career grand slam, which was the team’s seventh this season, matching the Brewers’ major league-leading total. The grand slam came after the Pirates loaded the bases against Colin Rea (8-3), who had pitched seven scoreless innings in his previous start.
“It happened quickly,” Rea said. “I felt like I was pitching well, but they found ways to get hits.”
Reynolds hit a two-run home run, his 17th of the season, in the third inning. Tellez hit his 100th career home run in the seventh inning. Suwinski hit his ninth home run of the season, and Palacios hit his second in the eighth inning.
